No Don't get married in Chennai!!!

A looooong time since i posted something....  Wedding season around...  Its always fun to take part in the celebration.... and if you think its fun and exciting knowing about the cost involved in conducting a wedding especially in Chennai..... you would be terrified!!! yes terrified.... !! The thing which amuses me is that  the cost of wedding is much lesser in other cities.. way MUCH lesser..!! I meant in other cities you have options of choosing the cost for a decent wedding...... you want a neat hall.. but you have a larger crowd.. yes you always have  choice and what you pay for it would be very very reasonable...

In Chennai if you want a neat hall... for a larger crowd... it would cost you no lesser than a minimum of 5 lakhs per day for the basic rent alone!! yes i know crappy!! Its not about the affordability level of people!........ Where is chennai going man?! 5 lakhs... 6 lakhs 7 lakhs per day for rent plus electricity plus misc!!! We end up spending 15 lacs for the rent of mandabam and electricity alone..... Its damn irritating when you know you can literally conduct a good wedding with that cost in other places!! The point is do we get the quality for the rate we are paying ?

The next darn thingy is decoration.... one of my friend told me decorators are giving a basic quote of 5 lakhs for the supposedly big mandabams in chennai!WTF man? And this torture of finding a good make up artist. .. few whom we find decent charge you 15k onwards per session!! yes there are well known celebrity make up artists who charge as high as 40k to 50k per session .. am sure we can even get a celebrity make up artist in mumbai who does a better job for much lesser rates...

Mehendi artists!!! Good ones as always are on the expensive side..  starting from 5k to 6k for the bride and increases according to the design!!I respect the artists but what bothers me is that there is no option in chennai for an above average quality of work for lesser amount where the options are available in bigger metros like mumbai or cities like bangalore/delhi!!Stitching of the bridal blouse has become a new business now..... we are left with no option for getting a good fit blouse for a nominal charge.....By mistake if you blurt out that you need a bridal blouse.... you end up getting a bill of 4k per blouse!!!!Photographers.... or even the gurukkal charge you crazily for conducting the wedding.......

Leave alone the big fat wedding category... the cost/rent of halls in the outer chennai seems no less than the ones inside chennai.... The middle and upper middle class of the society spends minimum 25 lakhs for a mediocre wedding here in chennai where an individual can spend that money to have a grand wedding in other places!!!Finally those category of people end up spending all their savings.... take up heavy loans and finally end up with a mediocre wedding !!!Even if someone wants to have a simple wedding....... There is hardly any option to have a less cost simple wedding in chennai!!

The main reason for the cost rise i would say are the people in chennai who are ready to give mooh maange rakham for every darn thing! What saddens me the most is that the people are so ignorant that they don't even wish to verify or bother about the standard or quality of things for which they are paying!! For all you people who really wanna have a great wedding without wasting money never get married in chennai!

All that you have written is true. But we could always choose to conduct a wedding the way we want to.As simple as we would want to. All we need to do is keep in mind what is important for us and our family. We need to have a budget and work around that. We can cut down on things that others need and we, may not need. A wedding can be made beautiful by the warmth of the people conducting it.And of course the smiling bride and groom.

what you are telling is completing True . .... I never tried to say you can't have a wedding in chennai... what i meant was about the value for money and how people are blindly spending and finally ending up with a mediocre end product. It was just an eye opener for many who need to recheck every money they spend for the wedding so that they don't end up wasting it and feel happy at the end of the day whether its 5 lakhs or 50 lakhs spent....

I would say...its all about economics.. The demand and supply curve:)..as long as there are people ready to spend, the cap would only go higher. This is not just with Chennai. This is true about every place. Even, the US. The issues are exactly the same even with US. I can say this for sure, considering i have two of my american frds getting married this year. So, its a fubction of what you want and how much you can afford for your want.

true mad definitely its all about demand and supply!! what i meant was... chennai is comparitively expensive and definitely the quality of things what we get in chennai for the amount we pay is mediocre as compared to other places.. definitely we get a better quality in other places for the same amount what we pay here in chennai!!Increase keeps happening but quality differs is what i wanted to convey! :) Better value for money basically in other places..
