Assumptions galore !
Life is sometimes very strange. You don't end up in a place where you wanted to be . Sometimes you don't have explanations for why you are in the place where you are in currently.
It is so nice to hear people praising me for being talented. Arts is something which i never planned to venture in .
People always assume when people hate science you end up taking commerce. I faced the reality of being judged for taking commerce . Little do people know that i always scored only above 95 in science and i got a district rank and silver medal in biology in my 10th boards.
I end up sitting in a group where many discuss oh i never liked organic chemistry. Oh i hated physics and the discussions about the most hated mathematics . And there i sit, remembering how i hated history and geography and how much i loved science and if possible i can sit with maths book solving problems 24 hrs.
I enjoyed my school. The way they taught us in BVB was just brilliant. The dedicated teachers, their extra ordinary efforts in shaping us. The sections were named brightest sections to others to train the top scorers students to get great marks and those who scored low to get very good marks. Being in one of the brightest sections and one among the previleged 30 students who were given extra coaching to get state ranks in 10th std did train us so well in all subjects. We were expected to perform.
As luck decides the outcome, many capable students dint achieve the expected marks. Each of us went in our own directions post 10th.
Those were the delicate years that any inspiring speech would influence our career path and i fell a victim to one such speech and ended up taking commerce.
I began to realize how most of them in the society treated the commerce/arts graduates.
Even a below average science student was considered brighter than a very good commerce student. Sad state of our society.
The not so talented students and the ignorant society in science stream should come and visit my class and many such arts colleges who have extremely talented and bright people . Im sure they would get a complex.
What is so great about that group of science students who reply i dint even study physics properly in school when you wanna discuss something related to it?
How does society decides the 3rd group/commerce consists of average people?
Is it relevant only in tamilnadu or even in other states? I would love to know.
Worst is when it comes to suggesting alliances.
There was this instance where i met an acquaintance outside and mom told her they were looking out for me . That aunty asked me what i was doing and she said oh we mothers love to have daughters in law from an arts background as many of them are talented but unfortunately our sons prefer only somebody with a science background. (An uncalled for comment i know) . All i could feel is abour how pathetic their ideas were.
Wherever i went i was asked if i was only looking for guys who are different, who are non studious and the like! Why do people assume if people pursue arts they aren't studious? They aren't bright ? How do i tell them about my eligibility of singapore airlines scholarship after my 10th and how my bad luck made the application disappear on the last day of posting it?
All these years i felt nothing except the thought of where do i belong?
How i really wish people stop assuming im not interested in studies or iam incapable of achieving academically just because i am doing something different.
How i wish i get to discuss about the 4 dimensions of space or godel's theory of incompleteness!
This is just a random scribblings of a person who still trying to find out "Where do i belong?"
When i am trying to conclude the post, there comes a call , there is a boy who is into xyz field and i thought your daughter would be suitable for him and she would prefer him because she is different ! And my mind goes " Oh no not again ! "
